Pacific Life Holiday Bowl: Oregon 42, Oklahoma State 31

The game delivered on its promise and turned when one of the defenses (Oregon) figured out how to stop the other team's offense in the second half.

It's a cover for Oregon, which was a three-point underdog, and really it's a high-impact game on our pool.

It is a win for Ed, Nino, Yohan, Rob and Sal.

It is a loss for Dan, Jim, Jon, Mark, Greg, Chris and Steve.

The loss eliminates Jon, Mark, Greg and Steve from the Pete Carroll's Tan Bonus (Dan, Jim and Chris already had been eliminated from that one).

The loss eliminates Steve from the Damp Basement Bonus, leaving no one still eligible for that one.

In addition, Ed selected Oregon as his SUPER-LOCK, which means he gets 10 bonus points and vaults into first-place, opening up a 5-point lead over Yohan. Ed has correctly picked eight of the last nine games.

Steve, on the other hand, had selected Oklahoma State as his LOCK, which means he loses out on the opportunity to pocket five bonus points. This is sad for Steve. He has correctly picked seven of the last nine games, but the two he has missed were his LOCK (OK State) and his SUPER-LOCK (Rutgers). So, while the people against whom he's competing still have the chance to pocket lock bonuses, Steve does not.

FIVE games on the schedule tomorrow, boys, and FIVE more the day after. There's a reasonable chance I'll pass out at some point, but if I don't, the updates will keep on flowing....

LOCKS AND SUPER LOCKS

Each player shall designate one of his 34 picks as a “Lock” and another as a “Super Lock.” Should a player correctly pick either or both of those games, against the point spread, he would be awarded bonus points as follows:

-“Lock” game: 5 bonus points

-“Super Lock” game: 10 bonus points

These bonuses pertain no matter how many points you receive for the game under the basic scoring rules. For example, if your “Lock” game is the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl, a 1-point game, and you pick it correctly, you will receive 6 points – 1 under the basic scoring rules and an additional 5 because you designated it as your “Lock.” If your “Lock” game is the FedEx Orange Bowl, a 5-point game, and you pick it correctly, you will receive 10 points – 5 under the basic scoring rules and an addition 5 because you designated it as your “Lock.”

ADDITIONAL BONUS POINTS

In addition to the basic scoring rules and the Lock/Super Lock points, a player may earn bonus points for picking many different combinations of games. These combo bonuses, which range from three points to twelve points depending on the number of games included in the combo, are detailed under the BONUSES tab above.
