...when you've got The Second Annual Graziano Brothers College Bowl Game Point Spread Bonanza? (A gloriously complex pool in which contestants pick all 34 college bowl games against the spread and can earn bonus points for practically anything.)

Sunday, November 23, 2008

Welcome

Ladies and Gentlemen (though mainly gentlemen, I would suspect), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Second Annual Graziano Brothers College Bowl Point Spread Bonanza.

As the title indicates, my brothers and I did this last year. It's a massive college football bowl pool in which we pick every single bowl game (there are, believe it or not, 34 of them now) against the point spread. Each bowl is assigned a point value, with points increasing as the calendar moves along and the games get more significant.

In addition, as you will see on this site in the coming weeks, there is a staggering number of potential bonus points. You will designate one of your picks as a "LOCK" and another as a "SUPER-LOCK" and will get bonus points if you get those games correct.

We also group games together for additional bonus points. For instance, last year there was a "Bobby Bowden's Belly Bonus" -- a 10-point bonus for anybody who correctly picked all five of the bowl games played in the state of Florida. There was also a "Homer Simpson Bonus" for anybody who correctly picked all six of the bowl games whose sponsors had something to do with food.

We are currently working through the bonus structure, and of course we won't know for a couple of weeks what all the matchups are, let alone the spreads. But if you're interested, please contact me at grazdanny@yahoo.com, and I will make sure you are alerted when it's time to pick games.

The first bowl game is the EagleBank Bowl in Washington, D.C. at 11 am Eastern Time on Saturday, Dec. 20. All picks will be due by kickoff of that game. Meantime, enjoy the periodic updates on this site, click the links on the right to check out dates, times and projected matchups for each bowl, and please feel free to weigh in with any suggestions regarding potential bonuses.

And of course, please feel free to refer your friends and family to this site. The more the merrier, after all...

Thanks,

Dan G.

LOCKS AND SUPER LOCKS

Each player shall designate one of his 34 picks as a “Lock” and another as a “Super Lock.” Should a player correctly pick either or both of those games, against the point spread, he would be awarded bonus points as follows:

-“Lock” game: 5 bonus points

-“Super Lock” game: 10 bonus points

These bonuses pertain no matter how many points you receive for the game under the basic scoring rules. For example, if your “Lock” game is the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl, a 1-point game, and you pick it correctly, you will receive 6 points – 1 under the basic scoring rules and an additional 5 because you designated it as your “Lock.” If your “Lock” game is the FedEx Orange Bowl, a 5-point game, and you pick it correctly, you will receive 10 points – 5 under the basic scoring rules and an addition 5 because you designated it as your “Lock.”

ADDITIONAL BONUS POINTS

In addition to the basic scoring rules and the Lock/Super Lock points, a player may earn bonus points for picking many different combinations of games. These combo bonuses, which range from three points to twelve points depending on the number of games included in the combo, are detailed under the BONUSES tab above.
